Very nice tracks to groove the house! These tracks written and arranged by Steve Aston and Montique of Undaground Recordings UK, remastered by Starbahn West.

Montique and Aston (aka Undaground recordings UK) have provided the world with a bridge between house and techno and raw percussive beats that are filled with inspiration, imagination and kaleidoscopic turntable audio propulsion. From their roots in the West Midlands in England, Montique and Aston have been working on a number of exceptionally vibrant and colourful projects that includes the forthcoming 'Undaground - 'Just us two' album and a whole host of other delights that are every bit as exciting and dance-defying as many of their contemporaries in mainland Europe and across the Atlantic. All good reasons to have them answer for their sins by answering the inevitable questions...

Notes

Undaground Recordings was a natural step for us as djs and producers Montique & Aston. The basic concept evolved when we met in a record store quite by accident in Coventry, England. Our musical influences combined strictly house music with underground techno and so it really was only a matter of time before both styles evolved into what today is known as Undaground Recordings.

We were a little skeptical at first as to how things might turn out, but five years on, the Undaground journey has really only just begun. The project has become something we are both very proud of. Just to be able to take live percussion and blend it with house and techno beats while maintaining a truly unique sound quite unlike anyone else is what we are all about. We look at it this way.. it's the music we make and dance to and its not just a dream... it's the future! Keep the future alive and dance!

What would you say have been your pivotal musical influences?

Larry heard, Frankie Knuckles, Bert Bevans, Santana, Tony Humphries.

What could you tell us about high points in your career?

People's reactions are always a high and at BeSonic they come in all shapes and sizes! We have particularly enjoyed the feedback and comments we have received for our releases and it kind of spurs you on a lot of the time. Being able to write and compose something that we and other people enjoy to whatever degree is all the high we need. To be able to just publish your music and receive feedback of a positive nature is something that spurs us on to achieve the goals in life we have set ourselves.

And on the down-side, how about the low points?

To be able to be taken seriously is something that can be very frustrating, yet that's sometimes the nature of the business we find ourselves in. Technology is also another aspect that also has its highs and lows and this also can be extremely frustrating yet we in our own lives have our ups and downs so we look upon our lows as challenges and hopefully we can learn from them.

If you could turn the clocks back, what do you think you might have done differently?

We just wished sometimes this project had been created earlier yet we then ask ourselves would we really have been ready for it and that is something we will really never be able to answer.

What are you working on at the moment?

We are working on In The City a house and live guitar and percussion track. We have just finished Saxomattic; a track we are very pleased with, also we have just completed Beats and Breaks for Bikini Wax Records USA; a track incorporating break beat with a house feel along with working on a remix of In The City with Manchester's very own Dust Music something we have been meaning to do for quite a while.

Are there any Montique & Aston CD's available?

The album Undaground Just us Two is nearing completion and should be available for download at BeSonic.com quite shortly.

Who did you work with on your most recent projects?

Montique, Aston Dust Music. Vinylholic New York Bikiniwax New York, Carnage Records UK .
If you could pick a favourite track from your recent work what would it be?

We are very pleased with In The City; a track that makes us want to exceed and produce more like this... the vibe this track creates is what were all about.
What equipment do you normally use?

Do you have a favourite instrument either as a player or as an appreciator?

A nice Korg synthesiser with pitch bend!

On to the more intimate side of Montique & Aston.. what did you dream about last night AND you can't say 'I do not remember'...

I dreamt my daughter was a vocalist and we had to pay her for her vocals!!

And, if we were to shadow you on a typical day, what might we do?

Write, listen to music, smoke, spend time at BeSonic, make music, and wait for my wife to phone.

What did you do the day before yesterday?

Helped out with a sick neighbour who has Alzheimer's and then came home and realised what life is all about.

What five albums would you want to find if you were stranded on a desert island with enough food, water, a copy of IOM, a complete state-of-the-art recording studio and a fantastic CD player?

Beatles - Abbey Road, Zero Seven - In the waiting line, Laurent Garnier - f communications the album, Strictly Rhythm - the early years, Studio 54 first compilation.

If you could have three wishes, what would they be?

To try and stop the innocent and mindless violence throughout the world, to stamp out poverty and make the world a nicer place to live in, to treat everyone, as you would like to be treated yourself.

If someone were to tell you to pack your bags and 'never come back' what would you take?

Computer, music, photos and two pictures my daughters made for me along with Montique's odds and ends.

and what albums did you listen to most recently?

Frankie Knuckles Armani ex album, Satoshi tomiie re licked, Vincent de moor the additional works promo.

What would you say is your favourite album cover of all time?

The Beatles - Magical mystery tour.

Jimi Hendix if he was still here.

What bugs you most?

People who criticise everything anybody does!

What kind of thing makes your day really shine?

Producing a good piece of music and watching it light up other peoples lives!

I hate to end it all like this but.. finally, what are your plans for the next twelve months?

To listen to as many BeSonic Artists as possible, and to continue to write and compose music for connoisseurs including ourselves!
